Five months after it was first announced, the Google Nexus 4 charging orb has finally gone on sale in the United States. The wireless charging station, which was designed specifically for the Nexus flagship phone, has lagged behind the handset itself by about four months, as is typical for Android handset accessories – we’ve seen similar delays for the Samsung Galaxy S3 wireless charger, for instance.

The Charging Orb is currently retailing for $59.99 on the United States store, and initially offered shipping in a week. There’s been no announcement of international availability, much to my chagrin – there’s just a message that the “Nexus 4 Wireless Charger is not available in your country.” While there are several third party Google Nexus 4 accessories that will get the job done, none of them are quite as beautiful as Google’s first party option in my opinion.

The Nexus 4 Charging Orb page does include some specifications though, so at least I can drool over these – including a 76 by 53 mm size, 1.8A DC input but 1.0A DC output (so not so efficient as a wired charger) and a weight of 130 grams. The one interesting piece is the charge time, which is “approximately 4 hours” – a little above the wired charger once more.

If you’re living in the US, will you be picking up this charger? Given how rapidly the phone itself has sold out, it’s probably worth checking right now if you’re interested!

Thanks for reading and be sure to let me know what you think of the article. Have a good evening!
