Today we’ll be looking at five of the best Google Nexus 4 cases that are available and shipping right now. The Nexus 4 has been in short supply and cases even more so, so I’ve scouted out these five case options and have given them a hands-on play in order to find out which I can recommend. So let’s get right into the selections, shall we?

5. PDair Leather Flip Case for Google Nexus 4

top5-5

So our #5 case to kick this off is this genuine leather flip case from PDair. PDair generally produce cases to a high standard, and this case doesn’t buck that trend. The leather use is soft and supple, offering a good amount of protection without being too bulky either. The white stitching is quite nice looking too, lending this case a professional look. The Nexus 4 is really secure inside, thanks to two pairs of arms holding the phone in place. While the flip form factor is a bit bulkier than cases that don’t protect the screen, the all-around protection will make this worthwhile for those not interested in picking up a Nexus 4 screen protector. A good professional option, but not one that I really fell in love with.

4. FlexiShield Skin for Google Nexus 4

top5-4

This is a much different case, in a traditional wrap form factor that covers the vulnerable back and sides but leaves the front fully exposed. I tested the clear version of the case, which gave an interesting plastic visage around the bezel of the phone. The back of the phone was more of a mixed bag, with the glass being protected but the white look not really in keeping with the rest of the phone. This is a good slim budget option, but the protection afforded is correspondingly small and there’s no added functionality here.

3. PDair TPU Protective Case for Google Nexus 4

top5-3

This PDair TPU case was similar to the previous option, but in blue added a cool look to the phone that agreed with me much more. The rear wave design seemed to add something valuable too, and the same slim fit and finish was impressive. Again, you’re not getting any screen protection so consider choosing some additional Google Nexus 4 accessories to shore up this deficiency. This case looked nice and definitely would be my top choice if I was going for minimal added bulk.

2. Leather Style Wallet / Stand Case for Google Nexus 4

top5-2

This case was one of the most functional, adding both a stand and a wallet to the traditional case form factor. That makes the case a fair bit bulkier than the others on this list, but the corresponding functionality is worthwhile if you do actually make use of it. The wallet section is well put together, with one clear plastic holder for photo ID, two card slots for credit cards and tickets, and one rear section for cash. The stand is also well designed, and was very stable if non-adjustable. Overall, a good case if you’re planning to ditch your wallet.

1. ArmourDillo Hybrid Protective Case for Google Nexus 4

top5-1

The ArmourDillo was my favourite case by a considerable margin – I feel in love with it from the silly name, and the more I used it the stronger I felt. The case is a combination of a slim TPU case with an impact-resistant exoskeleton featuring regular bumps. This gives the case a very organic feel, and provides a lot of confidence that my phone would survive any drop. While you do get a corresponding increase in bulk, the extra protection afforded makes this seem an acceptable sacrifice. The colours available – I tested blue – also add to this case’s appeal. Finally, the case includes a sturdy plastic landscape orientation stand on the back which isn’t something I expected and works well. All in all, a clever case that mixes style, functionality and protection to produce an item of indelible quality.

Conclusion

So there we have it – five case picks for the Google Nexus 4. I’d definitely recommend checking out the Armour Dillo, I really enjoyed using it and will probably order one for myself. I’ve already suffered the misfortune of having a chip out of the side of my Nexus 4, and I’ve got to limit the damage from here!

Thanks for reading the article. Be sure to let me know in the comments below what you thought of the case and be sure to share any recommendations of your own. Thanks again and have a good one!

Great article, but does wireless charging work with all of these cases? I’m particularly interested in the ArmourDillo.

    Thanks,

    Craig

I’m also very interested in knowing about the wireless charging capabilities while using some of these cases. I would love the protection of the ArmourDillo while using the charger.

I will tell you one opinion :)
The Armourdillo does not work with wireless charging :) I already have it and got quite irritated…
Also, avoid buying from the website that shows up while searching for this name on google (the one with fun in its name).
I spent 1 month waiting for the case, time during which they made many screw-ups including admitting that they had sold the item from the stock because someone else reserved before me and my order included also another unavailable IQ Charger.
That IQ Charger then arrived damaged, got a replacement…and now saw that it does not do wireless charging through this case…
    BEWARE :)
