The Metal Gear solid series has enchanted its fans with its action packed game series. Snake playing the protagonist in the 4 games released in the last decade has been one of the legendary characters of the gaming world with his stealth action game-play, Hideo Kojima’s intriguing cut scenes and story line have glued millions to their seats for hours. The latest Metal Gear Solid: Rising sets out to change all that we loved about the MGS series including Snake.

The three reasons Why MGS: Rising could disappoint is as follows:

  1. They have replaced Snake with Raiden. Raiden a character from previous games in the series is the new portrayal that we will be donning the lead in Rising. This step could be catastrophic as it could change the whole feel of the game. There are a huge number of Raiden fans as there are anti-Raiden fans who would say Raiden is a bit more on the feminine side as the character portrayed previosly in the series wasn’t  strong enough and also mentally weak as compared to the manly Snake. Though the MGS team promises to put Raiden  in situations where his strength and strong will would be proved, his credibility yet have to wait until we get to play the game.
  2. No more Snake’s stealth mode as Raiden is taking over with sword swinging  Katana, Zan Datsu action. Other modern weapons are also available such grenades and guns. All this has a possibility of looking like a Devil May Cry rip-off. Creative director at Kojima productions,Matsuyama is confident the new gameplay will be a refreshing change from Snake’s style of gameplay. As it will allow you to cut almost everthing and also an added attraction is that you can decide the angle at which the object is to be cut. There also seems to be a slow-motion feature to decide your cut angle.
  3. Another highlight of the MGS series has been the cutscenes and in depth story line produced by Hideo Kojima, this will be restricted in the new installment and more focus will be laid on the gameplay. This can prove to be a major setback unless the gameplay have something serious to offer.

There is one pleasant surprise though the MGS: Rising will be available on PS3 as well as X-Box 360 and P.C now gamers don’t have to buy a PS3 console to play MGS: Rising. Geoff Keighley, Spike TV executive producer and host has made a statement on twitter that the truth about the game will be revealed during this year’s VGA. Sounds Intriguing , for those interested the Video Game Award 2011 will be held on December 10 and will be broadcasting live on Spike TV as well as MTV2. Lets hope more exciting features are unveiled at the venue.
