The Metal Gear solid series has enchanted its fans with its action packed game series. Snake playing the protagonist in the 4 games released in the last decade has been one of the legendary characters of the gaming world with his stealth action game-play, Hideo Kojima’s intriguing cut scenes and story line have glued millions to their seats for hours. The latest Metal Gear Solid: Rising sets out to change all that we loved about the MGS series including Snake.
The three reasons Why MGS: Rising could disappoint is as follows:
- They have replaced Snake with Raiden. Raiden a character from previous games in the series is the new portrayal that we will be donning the lead in Rising. This step could be catastrophic as it could change the whole feel of the game. There are a huge number of Raiden fans as there are anti-Raiden fans who would say Raiden is a bit more on the feminine side as the character portrayed previosly in the series wasn’t strong enough and also mentally weak as compared to the manly Snake. Though the MGS team promises to put Raiden in situations where his strength and strong will would be proved, his credibility yet have to wait until we get to play the game.
- No more Snake’s stealth mode as Raiden is taking over with sword swinging Katana, Zan Datsu action. Other modern weapons are also available such grenades and guns. All this has a possibility of looking like a Devil May Cry rip-off. Creative director at Kojima productions,Matsuyama is confident the new gameplay will be a refreshing change from Snake’s style of gameplay. As it will allow you to cut almost everthing and also an added attraction is that you can decide the angle at which the object is to be cut. There also seems to be a slow-motion feature to decide your cut angle.
- Another highlight of the MGS series has been the cutscenes and in depth story line produced by Hideo Kojima, this will be restricted in the new installment and more focus will be laid on the gameplay. This can prove to be a major setback unless the gameplay have something serious to offer.
There is one pleasant surprise though the MGS: Rising will be available on PS3 as well as X-Box 360 and P.C now gamers don’t have to buy a PS3 console to play MGS: Rising. Geoff Keighley, Spike TV executive producer and host has made a statement on twitter that the truth about the game will be revealed during this year’s VGA. Sounds Intriguing , for those interested the Video Game Award 2011 will be held on December 10 and will be broadcasting live on Spike TV as well as MTV2. Lets hope more exciting features are unveiled at the venue.

I’d say reason 3 is a big reason why this one might actually be GOOD. I barely remember being allowed to play MG4 in between the endless bullshit cut scenes, which is why I’ve never been able to play it through again, despite trying a few times. HIdeo should go make movies if that’s what he wants to do. Otherwise he should remember to actually add some gameplay to his games.

i partially agree but then the cutscene are the tru essence of the mgs series. take the cutscenes aways and it is just another third person shooter.

all three reasons are nonsense imo.
1- it is not “metal gear solid 5″, it is a different game in the same universe with an interesting character.
2- How do you know there wouldn’t be stealth in the game? he will wield a sword but you won’t have to cut everything you see. actually developers said that “the game can be completed without killing anyone”. can you understand what that means?
3- they didnT say that they would completely remove the cutscenes, and also there are a lot of great games which don’t have long cinematics as in mgs4.

1-Whether MGS has the number 5 attached to it doesnt make a difference, it has the metal gear solid tag attached to it and that counts, its like using a Ferrari badge to make a hatchback.
2.About the stealth mode even in splinter cell at least one guy had to be killed in the game to be finished. Also they have said one could get through a level without killing anyone, that could mean there might be a particular stage which can be finished without killing anyone. There is no clear picture yet and there is no point in debating on the topic.
3.And neither did the post say all the cutscenes will be removed. All iam tried to say what could disappoint the fans and there are a lot of fans who play mgs specially for the story and cutscenes. Without the cutscenes and the great story line we are accustomed to the MGS series cld have been just another third person shooter.

First off just by reading this article, I can tell your not a hardcore Metal Gear Solid fan. I do not want to sound like one of those crazy people just looking to rant on someones post or article. But you need to go back and do your research or just go play the metal gear games again. Why i say that, is you use the name Snake loosly, by saying he was the main protagonist in the last four games of the decade. When really Solid Snake was only the main protagonist in MGS4, not MGS2. Naked Snake aka Big Boss was the main protagonist in Metal Gear Solid 3, Metal Gear Solid Portable Ops, and Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker. So its important to understand that they are two different characters. Plus just to be a smart-ass, there are five relevent metal gear solid games that were released in the last decade with snake as a protagonist. Metal Gear Solid 2, 3, 4, Portable ops, and peace walker.
Now that i got that out of the way, I want to go back to your reseasoning on why Metal Gear Solid Rising will dissapoint fans. I do not know why you think this game will dissapoint fans, plus all three of your pointed opinions are a joke.
I will start with your first point. Raiden replacing Solid Snake and Big Boss as the main protagonist will dissapoint fans?!?!?!?! I do not think this will dissapoint fans at all because they fixed the feminine side of raiden by making him into a cyborg ninja. So how is this feminine in any way, last time i checked ninjas are not feminine in anyway. Plus i think the videos that show gameplay prove that raiden is not feminine. Plus the story of raiden is not completely told, such as the rescue of Sunny, what happened to him after that and how raiden and Big Mama were working as a team on finding something (Dont want to spoil anything).
Secondly you say no more stealth modes. Where did you get your facts for this point? Cause last time i checked Ninjas are all about stealth so yeah i dont think i have to explain that any further.
Lastly you say that the length and lack of the cutscenes will be a dissapointment, when it was said that they will be mainly focusing on gameplay which is a plus. Also have you ever herd of telling a story while you are interacting with the game and playing it. AKA (HEAVY RAIN)
So yeah i think everyone will be blown away by this game.
Sorry for the rant, but I am a huge metal gear fan that will support the series till the very end.
